I was born in a small town in the province of Pistoia, in the northern part of Tuscany. Since my youth I always had a deep love and fascination with nature and the ecosystem that I was raised in. In University, I cultivated and deepened my knowledge of nature, graduating in 2001 with a degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Florence. After I graduated, I became a biologist in a laboratory. The work monotonous and repetitive, leaving me feeling unsatisfied and removed from the natural world. I needed a change.
I planted my first five acres of Sangiovese in the heart of Tuscan Maremma, a wonderful area well suited to producing grapes. The breathtaking landscapes provided a pleasant backdrop to my venture. Fortunately for me, my family had purchased a small farm in the town of Civitella-Paganico in 1992 as a vacation home. My family is involved in an entirely different business than agriculture, and so the land remained unused until I decided to develop it into something special. Over the years, I became a winemaker, and the estate came under the new zone of DOC Montecucco, an undeniable sign that I could not ignore. In 2006, I expanded, planting an additional 5 acres of vineyard, 2.5 of Pugnitello and 2.5 of Sangiovese, grape varieties that I had studied extensively in university.
